Using digital tools to strengthen immunisation system in Vanuatu

Apr 18, 2024

Cyra Patel spent two weeks in March 2024 to speak with stakeholders for her PhD project on how technological innovations can strengthen immunisation systems.

An electronic immunisation register was used for the first time in Vanuatu for the COVID-19 vaccination. Working in collaboration with the Vanuatu Ministry of Health, Cyra interviewed key players at the Ministry and with development partners about their experiences with routine immunisation data and using the electronic immunisation register for COVID-19 vaccination.

The study will identify how immunisation data is used and how digital tools like electronic immunisation registers can potentially increase data use. We will also draw out the lessons learned from the experience of implementing the system during the pandemic to help plan the next steps of expanding the register for routine immunisation.

Results of the study will be available in the second half of this year
