The Lao PDR Electronic Immunisation Registry (EIR) evaluation examined early implementation of a DHIS2-based digital immunisation registry across 26 health facilities in Vientiane Capital and Vientiane Province. Healthcare workers reported high acceptance and ease of use, though infrastructure challenges such as unreliable power and internet connectivity required workarounds, and mixed views on workload impacts were noted. Data quality analysis of over 850,000 vaccination events revealed issues typical of early digital systems, but also showed the EIR captured more vaccination events than paper-based systems. The evaluation found that successful digital health implementation depends not only on technology but on workforce support, reliable infrastructure, and strong data use culture and highlights a persistent “last mile” challenge in converting improved digital data into routine public health action that reduces under-vaccination.
